Say You’re Sorry: Morgan Dane Series Review

Finally back to reviewing books! Unfortunately, I lost all my reviews when I redid my website (insert crying face emoji). Over time I will review some of my all-time favorites. I decided to jump back in with the Morgan Dane Series by Melinda Leigh. I’ve flown through all the books in the series that are available so far.

After the devastating loss of her husband in Iraq, Morgan Dane returns to Scarlet Falls, seeking the comfort of her hometown. Now, surrounded by family, she’s finally found peace and a promising career opportunity—until her babysitter is killed and her neighbor asks her to defend his son, Nick, who stands accused of the murder.
Tessa was the ultimate girl next door, and the community is outraged by her death. But Morgan has known Nick for years and can’t believe he’s guilty, despite the damning evidence stacked against him. She asks her friend Lance Kruger, an ex-cop turned private eye, for help. Taking on the town, the police, and a zealous DA, Morgan and Lance plunge into the investigation, determined to find the real killer. But as they uncover secrets that rock the community, they become targets for the madman hiding in plain sight.

Sexy PIs and gut-wrenching back stories? Sign me up! I have thoroughly enjoyed this series through the first three books. From page 1, Morgan and her family (especially Sophie!) completely tugged my heart strings. Maybe it’s the baby hormones, but I found the entire family to be endearing. This woman devoted herself unselfishly to her children after she was struck with tragedy. As a mother, I instantly felt a connection. Even more, Morgan is a strong and passionate woman who truly carries this series. I wanna be a badass like her!

Lance Kruger, her partner in crime (ha, they solve crimes) is equally as lovable. Haunted by his missing father, they team up to prove Nick’s innocence. Part of me wishes this was a smut novel just for some sexy cover art, but alas, I’ll settle for my imagination. Lance works for his long-time friend and fellow former cop, Lincoln Sharp. Sharp is a no-nonsense health nut who almost had me thinking I should swap my daily coffee for a healthy smoothie…almost. Like Morgan, you would have to pry my coffee from my cold, lifeless fingers, but I digress.

You will enjoy every twist and turn along the way with these captivating characters. If you’re like me, you will immediately jump from book to book to find out what happens (angrily shakes fist at book 4 not being available yet!). Will Morgan and Lance get together? What happened to Lance’s father, long missing these 23 years? Who killed Tessa? Each book leaves you satisfied, yet wanting more. Hopefully Melinda Leigh continues to dazzle with this series. I’ll let you guys know what I think after reading book 4 in this series next month.
